Our Altbier
WHETHER FRESH ON TAP OR WITH “PLÖPP” TO GO:
OUR SCHUMACHER ALTBIER AND 1838 ARE AVAILABLE IN LARGE AND SMALL SIZES, FOR NOW OR LATER, BUT ALWAYS DELICIOUS.
Schumacher Alt
Since 1838, SCHUMACHER ALT has been brewed from the best hops, a first-class selected malt mixture and clear Düsseldorf water.
From that moment on Altbier has been an important part of Düsseldorf’s cultural heritage – like carnival or the folk festival. Rightly so, because our cherished Altbier combines the knowledge of several generations, the highest standards of quality, traditional recipes and manufacturing processes.
Our sparkling, amber SCHUMACHER ALT with 11.6 Plato (original gravity) and 4.6 vol% is a top-fermented Düsseldorf specialty. It is characterized by a lean, fresh body and a slightly malty and characterful hop note. Refreshing and tasty – just how an Altbier should taste!
The fine bitterness from noble Tettnanger cone hops from the Hallertau area shapes its rounded aroma. The strong foam from the open top-fermentation with the characteristic Schumacher yeast shows it at first glance: The interaction of hops, malt and Schumacher yeast has been perfected in the traditional brewing process of our SCHUMACHER ALT.
Cheers!
1838er
On 1st May 2013, a new Schumacher family member was introduced to mark the 175th anniversary of Düsseldorf’s oldest brewery: the 1838er!
Our anniversary Altbier 1838 is brewed with exquisite ingredients and great attention to detail by our dynamic and creative team of brewers with an original gravity of 12.6 Plato and 5.0 % alcohol by volume. The warm ruby colour of our 1838er – the Altbier 2.0 – is due to its special selection of barley malts, including Red-X malt.
Exclusive Australian (Galaxy) and American (Cascade) aroma hops refresh every palate with their subliminal bitter note (BE 35) through cold hopping. The resulting sensationally fruity, sparkling citrus and berry aroma is a firework display for the taste senses – cheers!
0.33 l Schumacher 1838
The German tradition of Maypole Dance Day (30th April) starts the sale of the 0.33 l bottles with swing tops every year.
The 1838er is available all year round fresh from tap or as take away in 1 liter bottles and 5 liter party kegs. Barrels are available as pre-order (4 days in advance).
Latzen
It’s something of a tradition in master brewer’s circles to put a particularly successful brew or a very good specialty beer “op de Latt” – on the highest shelf in the cellar – and only serve it on selected occasions or to very good friends. And since our founder Matthias Schumacher liked to experiment, he pioneered an exceptional, slightly more hoppy beer. He closed the first barrel of this beer in the cellar of “Im Sonnenaufgang”, his first brewery at Citadellstrasse 12 in Düsseldorf’s old town and stored it “op de Latt”. After work, when there was only a small circle of his friends in the pub, he got the beer “von de Latt” – from the shelf – to celebrate. And today’s Latzenbier was born.
You can get the popular SCHUMACHER LATZEN only three times a year – on the third Thursday in March, September and November. And this is always a reason to celebrate! In doing so, we are continuing an old tradition, because Latzenbier has always represented a celebratory occasion.
Today’s Latzenbier is brewed with some more good malt than SCHUMACHER ALT and is therefore stronger (5.5 % by volume) and fuller in taste. Of course, the selected hops and malt aromas are in a balanced relationship with each other and ensure the best beer enjoyment. Our Latzenbier is only available while stocks last.
Prosit! (Cheers!)
